Congratulations!! To Mrs. Margaret Gillender, who made a “Hole in One” at Los Olivos – hole number 6 on the 10^th of January 2015.

Mrs.  Gillender used a 5 Iron from a distance of 134 meters.

Superando las adversas expectativas en cuanto al tiempo, finalmente se pudo celebrar en Mijas Golf el V Torneo de Navidad el pasado sábado 13 de Diciembre. Aunque el cielo nublado y las primeras gotas de la mañana hacían pensar lo contrario, una tregua más que generosa hizo posible que todo se llevase a cabo en el mejor de los ambientes.

El campo de Los Olivos daba la bienvenida a los participantes, preparados para la salida “Al Tiro” a las 09.30 en una competición que se jugaba bajo la modalidad Stableford Individual.

Optaban a Trofeos y magníficos premios los seis primeros clasificados; así como la bola más cercana en los hoyos 3, 6, 8, 14 y 16.

La entrega de premios tuvo lugar en el Sport Bar de Mijas Golf, donde todos pudimos sentirnos “entre amigos” una vez más;  rodeados de nuestros más fieles socios, así como de todos los que quisieron sumarse a este ya tradicional evento.

Para nosotros queda pues inaugurada la temporada Navideña,  deseándoles a todos muchísima felicidad en estas fechas y lo mejor de lo mejor en el próximo año 2015.

Exceeding expectations about bad weather, finally it was possible to celebrate our Mijas Golf – 5th Christmas Tournament last Saturday the 13th of December.

An early cloudy sky and the first raindrops in the morning made us think otherwise; but a more than generous truce allowed to carry on with a fantastic fun day.

Los Olivos course welcomed the participants, ready for the “Shot Gun” at 9.30 of this “Individual Stableford” Competition.

There were trophies and prizes for the top six players; and also for the “Nearest to the Pin” on holes number 3, 6, 8, 14 and 16.

The prizes’ giving took place at the Mijas Golf Sport Bar; where we could all “feel at home” one again surrounded by our loyal members and many others that wanted to join this traditional event.

So for us the “Christmas Season” is officially inaugurated, wishing you all the happiness in these holidays and the best for next 2015 year.

La entrada y salida a la urbanización Mijas Golf, una de las más habitadas del municipio, ya es más segura gracias a la nueva rotonda que el equipo de Gobierno ordenó construir en uno de los dos accesos a este núcleo residencial desde el camino de Coín. Y es que las obras para su construcción terminaron el pasado viernes y hoy ha sido inaugurada por el alcalde de Mijas, Ángel Nozal.

«El camino de Coín soporta una cantidad de tráfico importante e incorporarse a él para ir a Las Lagunas era muy peligroso para una zona turística como esta, el Valle del Golf. Había que dotar a este punto de infraestructuras modernas porque era necesario», explicó el regidor.

De esta manera, esta nueva glorieta servirá no solo para que los más de 2.500 habitantes habituales de Mijas Golf accedan y salgan del recinto de una forma más segura, sino también para ralentizar la velocidad de la circulación de los muchos vehículos que pasan a diario por esta concurrida vía.

Las tareas de construcción de la rotonda han sido ejecutadas por la empresa Bustos e Hijos por un importe de 217.381,46 euros, que son casi 80.000 euros menos que lo inicialmente presupuestado. Han durado dos meses y ha sido necesaria una autorización de la Junta de Andalucía, ya que el tramo en el que se asienta es de titularidad autonómica.

Asimismo, como recordó Nozal, para que fuese una realidad, el Consistorio ha contado con la colaboración de los propietarios del campo de golf contiguo, que han cedido parte de sus terrenos para poder acoger la carretera. Además, como prosiguió, será la propia empresa la que completará esta nueva infraestructura «decorándola con motivos golfísticos». Por todo ello, se mostró muy agradecido con sus responsables «porque han demostrado ser un ejemplo de colaboración con el Ayuntamiento».

Por su parte, el concejal de Urbanismo mijeño, Manuel Navarro, incidió en la mejora de la seguridad vial en la que va a redundar este nuevo equipamiento así como en «el trabajo que menos se ve, que es cambiar todas las tripas de la calle». En este sentido, alabó el trabajo de la empresa ejecutora de las obras, «que han hecho un replanteo de las canalizaciones», que a su vez, a complicado un poco el desarrollo de la obra.

Esta no es la última actuación que el ejecutivo de Nozal para mejorar la seguridad y la circulación en el camino de Coín. Y es que, como recordó, el Consistorio tiene previsto construir próximamente una nueva rotonda en este eje circulatorio fundamental de Mijas a la altura de la urbanización La Cala Hills.

En la visita girada hoy por el alcalde a esta nueva infraestructura ha estado presente Lorenzo Pérez, director de Mijas Golf, quien ha valorado positivamente la actuación de equipo de Gobierno municipal porque, en su opinión, «era una necesidad». Por eso agradeció al Ayuntamiento esta actuación destinada a mejorar la entrada y la salida a esta urbanización, que cuenta con uno de los mejores campos de golf del municipio.

Por último, el gerente de la empresa adjudicataria de estas obras, Francisco Bustos, reseñó la dificultad que ha tenido esta intervención, «ya que afectaba al tráfico y se han encontrado canalizaciones que no se esperaban» y agradeció a los vecinos de la zona así como a los miles de usuarios que transitan a diario por esta vía su paciencia por soportar las molestias que han podido generar los trabajos.

The entrance and exit to Mijas Golf is now safer due the new roundabout that the government ordered to construct in one of the two accesses to the residential area from the Coin road. The construction works finished last Friday and it has been inaugurated by the Mayor of Mijas, Angel Nozal.

«The Coin Road he holds a significant amount of traffic and the incorporation to this road Las Lagunas was very dangerous for a tourist area like this, the Golf Valley. We had to provide it of modern infrastructure because it was necessary,» said councilman.

Now, this new roundabout will be useful not only for the more than 2,500 regular residents of Mijas Golf to access and leave the site in a safer way, but also for many vehicles to slow down when passing through this busy road.

Construction works on the roundabout have been executed by the the “Bustos and Sons Company” with a cost of 217,381.46 euros, which means almost 80,000 euros less than originally budgeted. It lasted two months and the authorization from the Andalusian Main Board has been necessary, as this section is a regional ownership.

Also, as Nozal reminded, for it to be a real, the Consistory has received the support the owners of the adjacent golf course, who have given part of their land to accommodate the road. Moreover, as he continued, it will be this company that will complete this new infrastructure «decorating with golfing motifs.» Therefore, he was very grateful to those responsible «because they have proven to be an example of collaboration with the Town Hall.»

Meanwhile, Urbanism Councilman of Mijas, Manuel Navarro, stressed the improvement of road safety that will lead this new equipment as well as «the work that we can’t see; which is changing all the underground». In this regard, he praised the work of the company carrying out the works, «they have done a redesign of the pipes» that turn a bit tricky to develop the work.

This is not the last performance of Nozal to improve safety and circulation on the road to Coin. And, as he reminded, the City Council plans build a new roundabout soon at this critical circulatory shaft in Mijas of La Cala Hills urbanization.

During today’s Mayor visit to this new infrastructure, has been present Lorenzo Pérez – Director of Mijas Golf Club – who has welcomed the action of municipal government team because, in his opinion, «it was a necessity.» So he thanked the City Council this action to improve entry and exit to this development, which has one of the best golf courses in the town.

Finally, the manager of the construction company, Francisco Bustos, outlined the difficulty of this proceeding, «As it affected the traffic and found pipes that were not expected» and thanked the locals and the thousands of people who travel daily by this route for their patience on bearing the inconvenience which may have created jobs.

La decimoséptima edición del Circuito Seniors de Andalucía celebró su final el sábado 8 de noviembre en el campo Los Olivos de Mijas Golf, donde se dieron cita los tres primeros clasificados de cada una de las ocho pruebas clasificatorias celebradas a lo largo del año y los dos primeros clasificados en cada una de las categorías del Campeonato Internacional Seniors Masculino y Femenino de Andalucía.

La prueba se disputó, al igual que los torneos anteriores, en dos categorías de caballeros y una de damas, en  18 hoyos bajo la modalidad Stableford Hándicap.

En cuanto a los ganadores, Tony Redston (Alborán Golf) se impuso con 38 puntos (-3) en primera categoría de Caballeros. La segunda plaza, a un punto del ganador, fue para Mark Newall (Asociación de Seniors de Golf de Andalucía), y en tercera posición, con una vuelta de 36 puntos, finalizó Juan Miguel Pulido (Real Club de Campo de Málaga).

En segunda categoría de Caballeros, el triunfo –con 37 puntos (-1)- fue para Juan del Valle, de Pozoblanco. Tras él, con 36 puntos, finalizó el jugador de Corta Atalaya, Andrés Pérez. El tercer puesto ha sido para José Muñoz (Lauro Golf), con 34 puntos.

En la Categoría de Damas, Mª Pilar van Dulken (Guadalhorce) se hizo con la victoria tras entregar una tarjeta de 39 puntos (-3).  A cuatro puntos de ella, terminó –en segunda posición-  Eulalia García-Estrada (Playa Serena), y Brigitte Nitschke (Real Club de campo de Málaga) fue tercera con 34 puntos.
Campeones del Ranking Andaluz Senior 2014

Naughton Nial se ha proclamado Campeón del Ranking Andaluz Senior Masculino de 1ª Categoría. Tras él, en segundo lugar, ha quedado Thomas McManus.

En segunda categoría de caballeros, ha encabezado el Ranking John Robilliard, seguido en segunda posición de Antonio Fernández.

Por su parte, Chelo Zafra ha sido galardonada como primera clasificada del Ranking Andaluz Senior Femenino. La segunda clasificada ha sido Mohaine Sookdeo.

Tras finalizar la competición, se procedió a la entrega de premios, que contó con la presencia de Francisco Cervilla, Presidente del Comité Técnico de Seniors de la RFGA; Ignacio Iturbe, Delegado Provincial en Málaga de la RFGA y Adjunto a la Presidencia; Lorenzo Pérez, Director de Mijas Golf; Salvador Pérez Mérida, Vocal de Relaciones Institucionales, Prensa y Protocolo de la RFGA; y Gonzalo García Corzo, Vocal del Comité de Seniors de la RFGA.

Esta temporada el Circuito Seniors de Andalucía ha constado de ocho torneos celebrados en Playa Serena, Real Club de Sevilla, Granada Club de Golf, Parque Deportivo La Garza, Parador de Málaga, El Rompido, Córdoba y Arcos Golf.

The Final Match of the Senior Golf Tour of Andalucia 2014 was held today by “Mijas Golf”, where more than 70 players played the tournament in 3 different categories: one ladies’ category and 2 gentlemen’s categories, all of them under the Stableford handicap format over 18 holes.

In the only category of ladies, Mª Pilar van Dulken (Guadalhorce) led the qualification, thanks to a total of 39 points (-3).  Mª Pilar is followed by Eulalia García-Estrada (Playa Serena), who came in 2nd place with 35 points, and Brigitte Nitschke (Real Club de Campo de Málaga) who came in 3rd place with 34 points.

Tony Redston (Alborán Golf) was the winner in the first category of gentlemen, with 38 points, overtaking Mark Newall (Asociación de Seniors de Golf de Andalucía) and Juan Miguel Pulido (Real Club de Campo de Málaga) with 37 and 36 points each one of them.

The victor of the 2nd category of gentlemen was Juan del Valle (Pozoblanco), who gained 37 points.  Andrés Pérez (Corta Atalaya) came in the 2nd place with 36 points and José Muñoz (Lauro Golf) came in the 3rd place with 34 points.

The awards ceremony was held after the lunch break, with the attendance of Francisco Cervilla, President of the Seniors and Foreigners Committee of the Royal Golf Federation of Andalucía; Ignacio Iturbe, Municipal Delegate of the RFGA in Málaga; Salvador Pérez Mérida, member of the Board of Directors of the RFGA; Gonzalo García, member of the Seniors and Foreigners Committee; and Lorenzo Pérez, on behalf of Mijas Golf.

Senior Ranking 2014

Naughton Nial came in the first place of the Senior Ranking of Andalucía 2014, followed by Thomas McManus, in the second place.  In the 2nd category of gentlemen, John Robilliard leads the Senior Ranking and Antonio Fernández came in the second place.

Finally, Chelo Zafra was the winner of the Ladies Senior Ranking 2014, followed by Mohaine Sookdeo, in the second place.

Damos la bienvenida a Septiembre, mes de empezar un “nuevo curso” y de emprender o retomar nuevos o aplazados proyectos, con el arranque de una iniciativa que los vecinos de Mijas hace tiempo que vienen reclamando.

El Ayuntamiento de Mijas por fin verá hacerse realidad su plan de construcción de una rotonda de acceso a la urbanización de Mijas Golf; una importante inversión que mejorará el acceso y la salida de este gran núcleo residencial.

En sus villas y urbanizaciones viven aproximadamente 2.500 vecinos; además de ser la entrada a Mijas Golf Club, con dos de los campos de golf más solicitados de la región.

Todo esto se traduce en un tráfico diario de miles de vehículos para los que este cruce suponía un gran problema por su escasa fluidez y seguridad, al tratarse de uno de los “puntos negros” de nuestras carreteras.

Las obras, que se ejecutarán en dos fases para entorpecer la circulación lo menos posible, tendrán una duración estimada de dos meses.

Como mejora añadida, se aprovechará para rehabilitar 120 metros lineales del muro de piedra que rodea el conjunto residencial.

Welcome to September, a month to begin or reintroduce new or postponed projects, with an initiative that Mijas Community has been claiming for a long time.

Mijas Town Council will finally see the results of their plan to construct a roundabout to access Mijas Golf’s development. This is a very important investment to improve entry and exit to this great complex.

There are approximately 2.500 neighbors living in these villas and houses; and we cannot miss out either that it is the entrance to Mijas Golf Club, with two of the most requested golf courses in the region.

This means a daily traffic of thousands of vehicles for which this intersection is such a danger due to the lack of fluidity and safety – at the moment, it is one of our roads’ “black spots” -.

These works are supposed to be concluded within two months more or less and will be carried out in two phases to disrupt traffic as little as possible.

As an added improvement, they will also restore 120 linear meters of the stone wall surrounding the area.

El Torneo celebrado durante los días 9 y 10 de Agosto de 2014 en Los Lagos y que alcanzó un número de 364 participantes, homenajeaba al que fuera nuestro querido Director hasta el año 2009: Felipe Pérez.

Los participantes jugaron en formato “Shot Gun” y en la modalidad de Pro-am “2 mejores bolas”, realizándose cuatro salidas: al tiro por la mañana a las 08.30 y por la tarde a las 15.00 tanto el sábado como el domingo. Obtenían premio los 4 mejores resultados profesionales: de 3.000€, 2.000€, 1.000€ y 500€ respectivamente. El evento fue cubierto por Andalucia Golf TV y otras cadenas locales.

En el Cocktail de entrega de trofeos, que tuvo lugar en la terraza del Restaurante Mijas Golf, se pudo disfrutar de un ambiente de lo más agradable y animado; dando paso después a una de las mejores rifas hasta el momento, con premios tan atractivos como 1 abono vip ilimitado para 2015 en Mijas Golf, Suites y fines de semana en maravillosos hoteles y un gran número de greenfees para jugar en algunos de los campos de golf más reconocidos de la provincia de Málaga, entre otros muchos regalos.

Cabe destacar la asistencia a la entrega de trofeos de multitud de participantes de muchas provincias españolas. El Director de Mijas Golf – D. The competition hosted on Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of August 2014 at Los Lagos with 364 participants is a tribute to our beloved Director until 2009: Felipe Pérez.

The participants played in a “Shot Gun” format and the modality of the Pro-am was “2 best balls”. The prices were to be delivered to the 4 best professionals results: 3.000€, 2.000€, 1.000€ and 500€ respectively. The event was covered by Andalucia Golf TV and some other local media.

At the prizes giving Cocktail, everybody could enjoy of a pleasent and entertaining atmosphere at Mijas Golf Restaurant’s Terrace, culminated by one of the best raffles so far at Mijas Golf: 1 unlimited Vip 2015 Membership for Mijas Golf, Suites and complete weekend in fantastic Hotels and a large number of greenfees to play some of the most renowned Golf Courses in Málaga.

Aunque la definición que ocupa nuestro título de hoy genere cierta incertidumbre, nos estamos refiriendo simplemente a lo que sería un jardín “de bajo consumo”¿A que ahora se entiende mejor?

Y un jardín así no es más que uno cuyas plantas son en su mayoría autóctonas o pertenecientes a climas similares al nuestro; que son las que –lógicamente- mejor se adaptan a la luz, la humedad y las condiciones de nuestro suelo.

La palabra xerojardinería empezó a escucharse en Estados Unidos a principios de los 80. El prefijo Xero significa seco. La sequía que azotó el Oeste del país en los 70 hizo urgente la necesidad de idear un nuevo concepto de jardines que fuera más respetuoso con los recursos naturales.

Este tipo de jardinería rechaza totalmente el despilfarro del agua, más aún en climas donde ésta supone un bien escaso.

La Xerojardinería llegó a España en la década de los 90, auspiciada también por una fuerte sequía.

Tras esta introducción,  enseguida se nos viene a la mente un lugar lleno de cactus y chumberas invadido por colores ocres. Pero la realidad es que, entre estos jardines sostenibles, se pueden encontrar verdaderas maravillas en cuanto a diseño y variedad, y que suponen  – a su vez- nuevos hábitats para las abejas y mariposas nativas.

Ya veis…Un espacio natural que casi se mantiene sólo en el que todo son ventajas. Una inversión  ecológica que devuelve a la naturaleza una millonésima parte de lo que ella nos viene regalando durante siglos.

Apostar por esta iniciativa es nuestro pequeño empujoncito para mejorar, aunque sea un poco, el entorno que nos rodea: Está demostrado que un jardín diseñado y mantenido con criterios de uso eficiente del riego consume apenas una cuarta parte del agua que se gasta en un jardín convencional.

De momento, en Mijas Golf, se pueden encontrar zonas de estas características en los alrededores del área de prácticas, junto a la caseta del Starter. Pero, en un futuro próximo, podremos disfrutar también de estos jardines en espacios puntuales repartidos a lo largo de todo el campo.

You may feel confused by this strange word in the title, but we are simply referring to a “low-power” garden. Clearer now, isn’t it?

And a garden of his kind is one mainly integrated by autochthonous or from a similar climate plants; as these are – obviously – much more adaptable to our landing’s light, humidity and conditions.

The word Xeriscape started to be used in the United States in the early 80s. “Xero” means dry. A drought hit the west of USA during the seventies and showed the urgent need to devise a new concept in garden to be more respectful of natural resources.

This type of gardening totally rejects the wastefulness of water, specially in climates where it is a scarce.

Xeriscape came to Spain in the 90s also fostered by a harsh drought.

After this introduction, it is easy to imagine a strow-colored place full of cactus and prickly pears. But, in fact, many of these sustainable gardens are truly amazing because of their design and variety; and they are, at the same time, new habitats for the native bees and butterflies.

You see…a natural area that requires very little maintenance and full of other advantages. An ecological investment to pay back to nature just a millionth of its immense and selfless gift.

The commitment to this initiative is our little contribution to improve our environment’s health: You can verify that a garden designed and kept with an efficient use of irrigation consumes only a quarter of the water spent in a conventional garden.

For the moment, at Mijas Golf, you will find these features spaces around the practice area, by the starter’s Hut. But, in the nearer future, we will be able to enjoy of these gardens dotted also along the course.

ESPAÑOL

Seguimos con la mirada fija en aquellos aspectos de nuestras instalaciones que se pueden mejorar.

Es por ello que nuestro Greenkeeper, siempre apoyado por un cualificado equipo de mantenimiento, está metido de lleno en la reparación de los bunkers de los greenes de Los Olivos.

Para que los resultados sean óptimos, hay que moldearlos de nuevo: Se vacían en su totalidad, se elimina el drenaje y se limpia de grava, etc…

Después se realizan las excavaciones necesarias para introducir los nuevos drenajes y se cubren con arena nueva.

A día de hoy, ya están terminados los bunkers del green del 1; y se está trabajando en los del green del 9. Por supuesto, de ahí se pasará a reparar los siguientes bunkers de green que más lo necesiten.

We keep staring at those aspects in our facilities that can be improved.

This is why our Greenkeeper, always supported by a qualified maintenance team, is completely involved in the greens’ bunkers’ reparation on Los Olivos.

To get an optimal result, it is necessary to mold them again: The bunkers must be emptied and the drainage must be removed to start cleaning it of all the gravel, etc…

Afterwards, the necessary excavations are made to insert the new drainages and, finally, to cover them with new sand.

At the present moment, the bunkers of the 1^st green are finished; and they are working on the 9^th green’s ones.

Then, of course, they will continue fixing the neediest ones orderly.

El Longest Drive European Tour 2014 hizo su parada en Karben-Petterweil (Alemania) los días 23 y 24 de Mayo.  Una nueva cita para los grandes pegadores que desean poner a prueba su fuerza y su destreza una temporada más.

En este segundo encuentro  del Tour 2014, entre todos ellos se escuchó también el nombre del español Miguel Pérez, quien ya  participó en el Campeonato de España 2013 en la categoría Amateur con un mejor golpe de 330 yardas.

Su participación en el campeonato alemán, le otorgó el puesto número 10 del ranking en ese momento; el ranking actualizado puede consultarse más abajo.

El joven de 20 años  respondió a un par de preguntas sobre sus primeras impresiones del comienzo de esta temporada:

• Como jugador que se estrena en el circuito LDET, ¿Qué esperas de esta temporada 2014?

Mi principal objetivo es aprender tanto como pueda y hacer una toma de contacto con el circuito. Así como conocer a los otros jugadores y, si tengo suerte, obtener un pódium en alguno de los torneos  europeos en los que competiré.

• ¿Qué significa para ti formar parte del Tour?

 Para mí, como jugador y amante de este deporte, es una gran oportunidad el poder participar en el circuito LDET y estoy muy orgulloso de representar a Mijas Golf a lo largo de toda la temporada.

The Longest Drive European Tour 2014 made a stop at Karben-Petterweil (Germany) on the 23^rd and 24^th of May: A new appointment for these great hitters wishing to demonstrate their strength and skill one more year.

In this second meeting of the 2014 Tour, among them you could also hear the name of the Spanish Miguel Pérez, who already participated in the Amateur category of the Spanish 2013 Championship with a best hit of 330 yards.

His performance in the German Championship meant the 10^th position at the ranking for him at that moment; but the updated ranking can be checked bellow.

The young 20 years old boy answered a couple of questions about his first impressions at the beginning of the 2014 season:

•  As a new player of the LDET circuit, what do you expect for the 2014 season?

 In my first season, my main goal is to learn as much as I can and make contact with the circuit. Also make contact with the other players and if I am lucky to reach a podium in any of the tournaments that I will compete around Europe.

• What does it mean for your to be part of the tour?

For me, as a player and lover of this sport, it´s a big opportunity to participate in the LDET circuit and I am very proud to represent Mijas Golf during the whole season.
