A short note to remind you this 3-steps procedure: To put out all the original filled composing it, restructuring the drainage an covering again with new sand.
Of course, we always carry on with this works trying to disturb the players as little as possible and it doesn’t obstruct the normal bookings system or the pace of play.
Golfers or not, we wish everybody to enjoy of this month of February; a bit cooler, but with not much rain at the moment.

Nine British veterans receive help in Mijas Golf for ‘reborn’.
On Course Foundation and the Nomads Golf Association have enabled accompany one week.

«I lost my right arm and had to reconstruct the face following a bomb that exploded me while patrolling a day in the Afghan War in 2009. The bomb was in a tree and was activated by a metal rope.» The speaker is Tom James, British veteran of 26 years (then only 20), with partner and two children (a girl and a boy), which has been reborn after this nightmare. Despite being right and having to do it all from then with his left hand, he feels privileged, «I’m alive and well, I’m not like many other fellow quadriplegic. The British Navy did nothing for us. Every day he came home after rehabilitation and had nothing to do. In a local association told me about On Course Foundation. This foundation, it sounds like a cliché, gave me life, «he explains excitedly.

Founded in 2010 by John Simpson, manager of extraordinary champion golfer Nick Faldo, helps war wounded rebuild their lives, paying the costs of Headley Court rehabilitation center located in Surrey, On Course Foundation about 40 kilometers south of London, where the nine former combatants who have chosen Mijas Golf as the ideal place for this sport, and thus adapt to a normal life after going through a traumatic experience met. Most of them were in Afghanistan, but there are also those who fought in Iraq and in the Maldives.
One of these former military, who lost both legs in Afghanistan, Ian Bishop (35), is the only one of the nine who

lives in Mijas for years and, with the help of his friend Roger Wedge, coordinator of the Nomads Association Golf, convinced of the wisdom of others come to the Costa del Sol to play the sport that serves as therapy for those who need to readjust.

«This is part of rehabilitation, because the sun relaxing their muscles, is therapeutic,» says Roger Wedge, veteran (not war) and very active in Mijas Golf having run several establishments on the Costa del Sol.

Rob Hansen, 40, was engaged to climb utility poles in the Navy for maintenance, when misfortune happened: «I screwed up left knee, I lost all the cartilage and bone. I did a transplant titanium, which broke last year and I have had to put another this year. «

Ian Bishop recalls his worst moment as if it were yesterday. «I lost both legs in Afghanistan. I exploded a bomb while fighting. Golf helped me not only to rehabilitate my body but also my mind. I do enjoy and move forward, «he says looking at the sky. When asked if they considered a hero, it is clear: «I am not, it was just a job that had to be done.» And pointing to his best bastion. «For me it was very hard to come back from the war. But I have one advantage: my wife is Scottish-blooded, very feisty and not allowed to have pity on myself. «

With On Course Foundation, nine have succeeded feel happy and «this atmosphere of colleagues who used to be in combat», says Tom James. Thanks to Mijas Golf, life makes more sense for them from now on

SLOW PLAY, NO THANKS! – ¡JUEGO LENTO, NO GRACIAS!

SLOW PLAY, NO THANKS!!

SLOW PLAY

GOLFERS WAITING – GOLFISTAS ESPERANDO

Like it were a bad endemic or the black plague, we would like to take the opportunity of the high season period, to remind all our dear golfers the need to avoid slow play in golf.

It is one of the most important rules of golf’s etiquette which too often… does not get the attention it deserves.

In golf, slow play is a situation where it takes longer than it should to complete an 18-hole round. If it normally would take 4.30 hours, during a slow play situation it might take 5 or even 5.5 hours. When play is extremely slow, golfers have to wait on every tee and every fairway for the group ahead of them to finish before they can hit their shots. Waiting diminishes the enjoyment golfers derive from playing the game.

Ultimately the responsibility for speeding up play lies with each golfer. Simple courtesy for the players behind you is the surest remedy for slow play. Be ready to play your shot when it is your turn. Select your club and plan your shot while your playing partners are hitting theirs. Never hit practice shots on the course, such as replaying a bunker shot that was poorly executed. Limit the time spent looking for lost balls or have other members of the group hit while you are looking. If each player in your group is taking too many shots each hole, consider picking up your ball in the fairway and resuming play at the green.

The principal reason of slow play is the golfer’s individual behavior. Some golfers take too many practice swings before hitting their shot. They spend a big amount of time looking for a lost ball. Having a large number of poor players on the course slows play simply because they hit so many shots.

Slow play not only spoils the enjoyment of the groups behind you, but also the groups ahead of you who will be waiting in the clubhouse for you, sometimes for over an hour! You will find that many golf clubs will state on the score cards in bold letters «AVOID SLOW PLAY». At the professional level slow play has resulted in the player having to pay quite a hefty fine.

PLEASE AVOID SLOW PLAY

¡¡JUEGO LENTO, NO GRACIAS!!

SLOW PLAY

SLOW PLAY

Remember that today is you who is doing wait for the rest, but tomorrow it could be yourself who has to wait.

WHY the Bermuda grass Turning YELLOW/BROWN?

Bermuda grass is one of the most popular grasses used on golf courses in the southern regions. It tolerates hot dry conditions (if watered weekly), can withstand traffic of players and buggies and, with good lawn care practices, makes a great lawn.

There are some varieties that will turn yellow/brown as the weather starts to cool. This is normal since the grass is preparing to go dormant through winter.

ENGLISH

Our regulars at the practice area will be able to enjoy this facility again from this coming Monday the 27th of October. We encourage all our customers to come and check by themselves this improved part of the Club, and to take advantage of this wonderful second spring that October’s weather is giving us.

And to continue with improvements issues, we take up again the repairing of Los Olivos’ bunkers. Our maintenance staff is starting to work on the last of the three bunkers at hole number 12 on this course.

This is a remodeling of the bunkers, in which the first step to take is to dump all the old stuff to reach the base. Then put the new drainage to finally cover everything with new sand.

As we said before, two of this three bunkers were half done from last week; so soon our players will be delighted by this 12th fairway of Los Olivos, with totally repaired bunkers in perfect conditions.
